These past few years, Ressie’s backyard has been the South Pacific. We’ve barely scratched the surface – other yachts spend years exploring areas we’ve just glimpsed at. Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and the Louisiades. These are places of unparalleled natural beauty, peoples of such grace and humanity, and yet all of the island groups we’ve visited face enormous challenges. It feels such a privilege to explore the less visited places, and yet we’re left wondering whether visiting yachts do not just inadvertently disrupt the natural balance of things.
In 2016, we joined the World ARC fleet in Darwin, and sailed to the Caribbean via Indonesia, Christmas Island, Cocos Keeling Island, Mauritius, Union Island, South Africa, St Helena and Brazil. It was just wonderful in so many ways. Ressie has been stored in Grenada since then, except for our summer family cruise over Christmas and New Year in 2017/8.
